Michigan Hash

This great Michigan Hash comes to us from the Larkin Housewives’ Cookbook published in 1923. In fact, this classic cookbook has provided us with many prize-winning recipes, all created by Larkin customers who took part in the recipe contests organized by the company.

Serves 4 | Prep. time 15 minutes | Cooking time 45 minutes


1 (15-ounce) can crushed tomatoes

1 cup cooked white rice

1 pound ground beef

½ onion, diced, about

2 tablespoons

½ cup crumbled butter crackers (optional)

2 cups cooked macaroni pasta

Celery salt to taste

Salt and pepper to taste


Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease a large baking dish with cooking spray or melted butter.

Add the macaroni, beef, rice, tomatoes and onion to the baking dish.

Season with celery salt, salt and black pepper.

Top with the crackers if desired and bake for about 45 minutes. Serve warm.
